Czech Technical University Joins the ICRC Project

22.01.2010

Another leading partner joins the FNUSA-ICRC project

The International Clinical Research Center project gains another very important partner in the form of the Czech Technical University in Prague (Czech abbreviation: CVUT). Leading specialists from CVUT will take part in individual clinical research projects, and CVUT students will have unique opportunities for internships at one of the best hospitals in the world: Mayo Clinic in the USA.

The cooperation between FNUSA-ICRC and CVUT represents a breakthrough for Czech medicine and research. Dynamic scientific and research teams cooperating on the development of new technologies and materials will be formed as a part of this supra-regional relationship. “Top-quality medicine of the very near future will be based on close communication between medical teams and teams of biomedical engineers and other technicians, as equal partners. This trend is increasingly visible,” says Dana Jurásková, the Czech Minister of Health.

Leading specialists from CVUT will join the projects that have already started under the ICRC umbrella and those that are being planned to start once the University Hospital succeeds with its application for EU funding within the “Research and Development for Innovation” Operational Program, priority axis one, “European Centers of Excellence”. The main areas of cooperation will be research in the fields of cardiovascular disease, transplant, neuroscience, oncology, biomedical engineering, technology transfer, technology development, and pre-graduate and post-graduate educational programs.

“Our goal is to focus cooperation with CVUT not only on biomedical engineering, but also on a range of other areas, such as nanotechnology, information technology, and so on,” explains Petr Koška, director of St. Anne’s University Hospital in Brno. He adds, “Thanks to this cooperation, it will be possible to fundamentally extend our cooperation with leading foreign academic institutions.” The cooperation between CVUT and ICRC was officially concluded by the signing of an agreement between St. Anne’s University Hospital and the Czech Technical University.

“Such strategic partnerships enable the rapid development of international educational programs as well as academic and industrial research projects. This project will contribute to a close interconnection between top-quality health care and new discoveries in the field of science and technology,” states Marek Šnajdr, First Deputy Minister of Health of the Czech Republic.
