Together with the aging of the population and the increasing interest in healthcare, there is also rising demand for more sophisticated medical equipment and procedures along with the need for more cost-effective patient care. Technology is affecting the medical environment at an increasing rate and its importance in medicine is steadily growing. The use of often technically complex equipment is becoming inevitable in many medical fields, as well is the closer collaboration between physicians and both technicians and engineers.

The Biomedical Engineering Centre provides researchers with instrumental and professionally-technical facilities in the areas of biological signals, transmission, integration, and archiving of research data. It is focused on the advanced acquisition and analysis of biological signals using custom-made equipment. The main area of the research targets new methods and technologies to improve the diagnosis of cardiac and neurological diseases.
