Within the field of cell and tissue engineering, medicine and biology interact with technical branches. The purpose of the Unit is to prepare biologically equivalent tissue and organ replacements; artificial tissue most often comes from the patient’s genetic material and is designed to suit his/her needs. Cell and tissue engineering might significantly impact the treatment of diseases such as Parkinson's disease, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, tumours and cardiovascular diseases or help replace skin after extensive burns and provide artificial replacements of cartilage, bones and blood vessels. The centre is focused on the development of clinical manufacturing processes based on cell and tissue engineering and the quality control of emerging products.
