Meet our keynote speakers!

Edward A. Bayer
The Wishner Chair of Bio-organic Chemistry
Weizmann Institute of Science

His research focuses on enzymes, protein interactions, and microbial systems capable of breaking down plant biomass. He is best known as one of the pioneers behind the cellulosome concept – a sophisticated enzyme complex that certain bacteria use to efficiently degrade cellulose and other components of plant cell walls.

ALAIN NOGARET
Professor of Physics
University of Bath

His research focuses on the physics of low-dimensional and nonlinear systems. In a unique way, he bridges physics and medicine, working on artificial neural networks and neuromorphic devices that mimic biological neurons, as well as the use of electronic devices for the treatment of chronic diseases. At the University of Bath, he is currently involved in the development of a digital twin of the brainstem for the treatment of cardiac disorders.

Professor Nogaret also collaborates closely with ICRC, specifically with the Interventional Cardiac Electrophysiology team and physician-scientist Martin Pešl. As part of an international consortium, they are working together on the development of an intelligent cardiac pacemaker for cardiac resynchronization therapy. The device is designed to respond to physiological signals from the patient’s body and adjust the heart rate accordingly.

Mauro Perretti
Professor of Immunopharmacology
Queen Mary University of London

His research focuses on inflammation, particularly on the emerging field of resolution pharmacology – an approach that explores how the body can actively resolve inflammation and promote the return of tissues to their normal state.

This understanding is particularly important in chronic inflammatory diseases, where the problem may not only be the inflammatory response itself, but also the body’s inability to properly switch it off. As a result, prolonged inflammation can lead to ongoing tissue damage.

Prof. Perretti’s work goes beyond basic research. He has a strong focus on translational medicine, helping to bridge the gap between scientific discoveries and their potential application in clinical practice.
